The new year is upon us and with all the resolutions being made for a better you and trends that will be thrown in front you saying these are best which way do you go? Here at empowering movement we are all about looking at things in totality and not just bits and pieces. So after reviewing lists upon lists we compiled a list that’s devised from all contributing aspects to make us better as a whole for 2016. Enjoy!
Wearable Technology :
Coming first to mind when thinking about this booming industry are all the stylish new designs to fit right into your everyday life and keeping you accountable for a better lifestyle. From smart watches, heart-rate monitors and GPS gadgets lead the way in keeping you up to date with every movement. That’s not all as wearables have expanded into smart glasses, shoes and smart fabrics. Reading our bodies is becoming more and more self efficient for better results.
Mental Fitness (Meditation) :
The mind controls the body not the other way around. Expanding our minds has always been an ingredient but more so than ever getting clear on our results before we achieve them has taken forefront on several platforms with friends, co-workers and athletes. Events like The Big Quiet, Unplug in Los Angeles, Mindful in NYC and The True Athlete Project are just some of the metal fitness programs opening our minds and our performances.
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) :
These programs are not for the light hearted and I suggest developing a sound base of fitness before jumping right into this type of intensity. HIIT programs have become all the rage for the limited amount of time fitness goer but demands max results. Involving short bursts of activity followed by minimal rest periods. These burners can me completed in 30mins or less!
Seaweed the new miracle food :
Most initial responses to seaweed being put on your plate get a cringing face but not as of late. This ugly duckling underwater plant packs the most nutrient dense profile on the planet and rich in minerals. Can this be the new takeover of Kale?
Functional Training :
Highly incorporated into many athlete programs functional fitness for balance, focus and overall movement sharpness in all planes. From dynamic movements to special fitness programs for older populations are taking shape for 2016.
It’s no surprise that yoga has made this all around list as it takes the total cohesiveness of the mind and body to perform such moves. New installments to this trend such as fat yoga and salty yoga are adding to it’s already stellar line of established classes all over. I myself wasn’t aware of so many varieties including Power Yoga, Vinyasa, Sivananda, Bikram and Yogalates, to touch on a few.
Matcha More :
This Japanese green tea that starts in powder and added to hot water which becomes frothy in texture when whisked has taken coffee houses by storm. It doesn’t stop there though from desserts, brunch menus to sports supplements this green tea already known for being rich in antioxidants may soon find its way into many other forms you use and Matcha more!
Strength Training :
This remains the core staple for many health and fitness platforms of all levels. With benefits of building a stronger bone density and being one of the most efficient manners to burn fat and build lean muscle it’s no wonder its the grandfather of the fitness trends.
Bodyweight Training :
The name says it all. What makes it so enticing is the convenience of needing little to none equipment and able to do anywhere. Don’t limit yourself to only push-ups and squats when there is so much more! ex. (mountain climbers, pull-ups,high knee runs, planks, atomic sit-ups just to name a few.)
Personal Training :
It’s no secret that having a good coach in any aspect of life can help you flourish to your max potential. With so many claims to personal trainers and who’s a celebrity trainer, who’s a guru or claimed #1 online coach how do you make your choice? Ask the right questions. What’s their experience? Tell them your goals and ask how they will get you there? Why are they in the industry? Can they give you references? Lastly what does their lifestyle look like? These will give you a base if they are in line with the type of person you will ultimately be spending quite a bit of time with and becoming a vital piece to becoming a new you.
All in all trends come and go. Some make more of an impact than others but it’s totally at your own discretion which you choose to incorporate within your own lifestyle. The better questions I ask myself when looking at trends can it impact my life and can I make it better in some way to impact others. As 2015 comes to a close I hope this can add a piece to starting your year off down an empowering self path.
